FAQ: Photo Rejuvenation
Lime Light
What is the LimeLight Facial?
The LimeLight is a flash lamp device which produces a wavelength of light which is absorbed by red blood cells and melanin improving surface imperfections, such as pigmentation and vascularity associated with aging and photodamage.
What areas can be treated?
The LimeLight is ideal for any part of your face, neck, chest, arms and legs; with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spots. Light (low contrast) brown spots, which were previously difficult to resolve, respond very well to treatment.
What does the treatment do?
By selecting Program A, B or C, a LimeLight treatment can be customized to an individual’s skin type and can selectively treat the brown and/or red pigmented areas on the skin. It’s the heating of the pigmented brown or red cells that causes the therapeutic effect.
What do treatments feel like?
When the pulse of light is delivered, patients will experience a pinching or stinging sensation. The intensity varies depending on the area of the body being treated. Pain management is provided as required.
How long will the treatments take?
Treatment time depends on the area of the body being treated. For example the face may take 30 to 45 minutes, whereas the legs will take up to 2 hours.
How many treatments will I need?
One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for excessively sun-damaged skin.
What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and the skin may appear red. The treated area may be mildly swollen, accompanied by a burning sensation. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or two, depending on the area being treated. Tiny blisters may occur in some areas. If this happens, Fucidin ointment is applied until the lesions heal. If the treatment pulses are not placed close enough, streaks of untreated skin may be left behind. These are simply mopped up with a second treatment. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness.
When will I see results?
Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve. The legs take much longer to heal than the face.
Will the spots and redness reappear over time?
New brown spots telangiectasia and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage; however they can also be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least 45 SPF when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness.
What are the potential side effects?
-
Expected but not guaranteed results.
-
Blisters.
-
Scars.
-
Skin color changes including extended periods of redness, brown discoloration, and/or loss of pigment.
-
Streaks of missed treatment areas.
What does the treatment cost?
The cost varies with the size of the area to be treated and the number of treatment sessions required.
XEO IPL
What is Xeo Intense Pulse Light Therapy (IPL)?
An intense Xeo light is applied to the skin through filters in a series of gentle pulses. The filtered light of a specific wavelength penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormal pigment or vasculature in the skin. It produces a bright light, mild discomfort, a little swelling, contraction of blood vessels, and/or darkening of pigmented spots that subsequently peel off.
The Xeo IPL is effective in the treatment of sun related aging, including: dilated blood vessels and broken capillaries (redness) and pigment abnormalities (brown discolorations such as lentigines and actinic freckles). The heat delivered during the treatment may result in the reorganization of the collagen building blocks of the skin resulting in a reduction of the appearance of pores, fine lines, and texture changes. The skin looks revitalized.
What can be expected during a treatment?
The area to be treated is cleansed and the filtered light is applied through a hand piece. Each pulse feels like the snap of an elastic band on the skin. A treatment may last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the areas being treated.
After a treatment the skin may be pink and/or slightly speckles and brown. Gradually the targeted redness or pigment will decrease. Skin tones will have improved harmony and a rejuvenated appearance.
The Xeo Intense Pulse Light is usually used in combination with other treatment modalities to achieve the best light. The combined program is referred to as the 3D Rejuvenation program.
How many treatment sessions will be necessary?
The number of treatment sessions required depends on the degree of photo damage or changes within the skin. The average person requires five sessions two to three weeks apart. Maintenance sessions once or twice yearly are usually required because sun damage and other changes are often ongoing.
